The school gets its name from the Aboriginal name for Mt Warning - "Wollumbin". There is some debate concerning the meaning of the name Wollumbin.

One popular definition is "Cloud-catcher", as often the only clouds in the sky appear to be hugging the top of the mountain.  Another is "Fighting Chief of the Mountains"; some believed that thunder and lightning seen on the mountain were fighting warriors and the wounds of these fights being represented by the landslides that occurred. For more information, try the following websites:  www.nnsw.com.au/npa/mtwarning.html or http://www.bigvolcano.com.au/natural/natparks.htm#Warning.
